E.U. to Increase Funding for U.N. Aid Agency for Gaza
·1 min
The European Union announced plans to increase its funding for UNRWA, the U.N. agency aiding Palestinians in Gaza. The EU will disburse 50 million euros next week, aiming to alleviate the agency’s struggle after Israeli allegations against some of its staff. Israeli accusations claimed that UNRWA employees were involved in attacks on Israel. This led several countries and institutions to suspend their financing, withholding around $450 million. The EU’s contribution will allow UNRWA to continue operations until the end of March. An independent audit and internal investigations have been called for to address the allegations.
